Women to Admire

I gave a presentation in my Gender and Racial/Ethnic Disparities in Science and Math Achievement class (whew, that’s a mouthful) on the article “Bridging Differences: How Social Relationships and Racial Diversity Matter in a Girls’ Technology Program” (another mouthful) by Linda Kekelis. In the introduction, the article says that girls who attend all-girls’ schools are more likely to pursue a career in math/science/technology and are overrepresented in business leadership positions and in U.S. government positions. I started looking up alumnae of women’s colleges, and I was surprised at the long lists of women with tremendous accomplishments. Inspired, I wrote this song as a tribute to these women. I performed it in class at the beginning of my presentation. Later, I filmed it for you all to enjoy.

Now, you better watch the bloopers.

Check out the lyrics!

Note: I don’t really want to get rid of all the boys. I like boys.
